Gleistein confirmed as Official Rope Supplier to TEAMORIGIN for 2010
Partnership supports the anticipated British challenger for the 34th America’s CupBremen, 19 February 2010 - More often than not, getting a great team together is a pivotal part of success. And in the uppermost echelons of professional yacht racing this is perhaps truer than anywhere. Gleistein Ropes announces that it is teaming up with TEAMORIGIN, the British Team intending to challenge for the 34th America’s Cup. The state-of-the-art rope manufacturer based in Bremen, Germany, has been selected as the “Official Rope Supplier” by TEAMORIGIN for 2010. Gleistein will supply all rigging as TEAMORIGIN prepares its challenge for the world’s oldest and sailing’s most prestigious sporting trophy.
Gleistein Ropes is proud of its selection as the Official Rope Supplier to TEAMORIGIN for 2010. In the lead-up to the 34th America’s Cup, Gleistein will supply the British challenger with its latest high-tech rigging manufactured to the highest standards and incorporating the world’s most modern, innovative fibres.
Thomas Schlaetzer, Managing Director at Gleistein Ropes is delighted with the announcement: “Our engagement as a partner of TEAMORIGIN is a real thrill. A high-level sponsorship such as this allows us to demonstrate the superiority of our products on centre stage and under some of the toughest conditions. In addition to a test of endurance – as was clearly shown in our sponsorship of the PUMA Team at the 2008/2009 Volvo Ocean Race – the upcoming involvement with the TEAMORIGIN America’s Cup bid will confirm our performance in fast match racing conditions.”
“This deal promises to admirably support our ambitions in the lead-up to the 34th America’s Cup,” comments Mike Sanderson, Team Director of TEAMORIGIN. “With Gleistein Ropes we have secured a partner that has earned a formidable reputation for providing high-performance, industry-leading rigging hardware. We look forward to a successful, mutually rewarding partnership.”
This TEAMORIGIN sponsorship is the latest in many previous successful engagements by Gleistein Ropes, including the PUMA Team in the 2008/2009 Volvo Ocean Race when “il mostro” finished second. They were also aboard the “illbruck” when it recorded its victory at the 2001/2002 Whitbread Round the World Race (predecessor event of the Volvo Ocean Race). And in addition to involvement with the record-breaking solo round-the-world vessel, Trimaran IDEC, Gleistein also partnered BMW ORACLE Racing in its 2007 bid for the America's Cup.
Gleistein has been manufacturing ropes since 1824 and is the oldest family industrial company in Bremen (Germany). Together with its Trencin (Slovakia) plant the company boasts two of the most modern rope manufacturing facilities in the world with a total production area of more than 17,000m². Modern chemical fibres, sophisticated designs and future-oriented rope finishing equipment and procedures offer a definite quality “plus” that directly benefits the consumer. Gleistein offers a complete service, provides its customers with industry-leading know-how and assists in selecting the perfect rope – whatever the need. Ready-to-use finishing of products, execution of contracted tests and the development of tailor-made solutions round out the comprehensive range of services.
