Latin American piano gems of the 19th and 20th centuries

Argentinian, Cuban and Creole music – on this, her first solo release, pianist Claudia Schellenberger strikes the chords of different North and South American regions. With their fiery exoticism, the three composers featured here can certainly guarantee much listening satisfaction – yet their biographies too, interesting in themselves, have much to tell about the “musical tightropes” each one of them had to walk. All three of had Classical music training, all three of them were masters of their craft. But the folk melodies and rhythms of their respective homelands left clearly identifiable traces in their output. The result is quite different in each case: thus we not only get to know three generations of musicians (Alberto Ginastera died more than 100 years after Louis Moreau Gottschalk), but also three different ways of incorporating a diverse array of musical influences into an individual artistic style.

Claudia Schellenberger performs to great acclaim in Germany and abroad: she has guested, for instance, at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, at the Frankfurt Festival (Alte Oper) and at the Harvard Musical Association in Boston. She has toured Germany with the Dvorak Symphony Orchestra several times; further chamber music recitals with renowned musicians underscore the breadth of her repertoire.
In March and April 2010 she will follow an invitation to give recitals and master classes at the New England Conservatory in Boston.
