Michael Huggan ARPS: “Africa and Beyond” Photographic Exhibition
Michael Huggan returns from Africa to prepare for his next exhibition, “Africa and Beyond” where his photographs of African wildlife, lifestyle and nature will be on display at the OSO Arts Centre, 19-21 Station Road, Barnes on Friday 20th October and Saturday 21st October 2006.Having recently returned from the Buffalo Springs National Reserve in Kenya – his second visit to the region - he is full of energy and enthusiasm for the job ahead which is to prepare for the second of his exhibitions which takes place in Barnes, Surrey and will focus on his passion – African wildlife photography.
“I had a very clear objective to this trip” Michael explains. I wanted to obtain photographs of three species that are indigenous to the area, namely the Gerenuk (Gazelle Tribe), Grevy’s Zebra and Reticulated Giraffe. Why these three species in particular? I wanted to express how fascinating these creatures are. The Gerenuk in particular is the most amazing animal, very attractive with a golden brown coat and feeds in the most graceful manner. When feeding from branches high above the ground the Gerenuk’s body extends vertically reaching leaves and the front legs act as stabilizers. At the same time, one of the front legs pulls down branches gathering more leaves within its reach. It’s the most amazing feat to watch and to capture it in action was a very big photographic moment for me!”
Michael’s signature trait is his ability to look into the soul of his subject capturing the image at just the right moment. So is timing the key?
“To get the best pictures, the trick is to make sure you are in the right place with the sun behind you and the subject ready to have its picture taken. The reality is that seldom happens so like most photographers I have to resort to planning, patience, persistence and luck. Out of over two thousand images I have about twenty that I am pleased with and out of those there are five that I think are really spectacular – so all in all it has been a very successful trip but then it is always worthwhile when I have been to Africa”.
Michael is now focusing on his next product which is his photographic exhibition. Pictures of a great deal of his portfolio will be on display including limited editions of Fine Art Prints of African wildlife, lifestyle and nature. For the first time, visitors to the exhibition will be able to purchase note-cards and calendars of his favourite pieces. “The exhibition will be a chance to show a pictorial history of Michael Huggan Photography and at the same time showcase my most recent pieces” he explains. I really feel like I am entering a new phase of my photographic career. It is a very exciting time”

Florida: October is "Guardianship Month"
Florida Governor Charlie Crist has declared October as “Guardianship Month.”
NASGA would point Governor Crist’s attention to the fact that the original intent of guardianship/conservatorship law - “guard,” “protect” and “conserve” - is no longer being complied with in a frightening and growing number of cases involving court-appointed fiduciaries. Wards' estates, instead of being conserved, are being plundered in the guise of fiduciary fee billings for "services," either not…
