Press release from: Jonathan Sibley Coaching & Psychotherapy

Angela DeCandia-Presuto, MSW, LCSW and Jonathan Sibley, MSW, LCSW, MBA are offering a series of relationship seminars for couples. The Connected Couples Seminars are focused on helping couples change negative patterns of interacting, communicate more positively, and access the emotional connection that brought them together. Seminars will be offered for a variety of relationship groups including couples in conflict, empty-nesters, pre-marital couples, new parents, and couples struggling with trauma or loss. The first seminar for couples will take place on February 27, 2010 in Montclair, NJ.

The Connected Couples Seminars are based on the ground-breaking work of Drs. Sue Johnson and Les Greenberg, creators of Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT). EFT is the most scientifically validated model of couple therapy. For over two decades, research studies have demonstrated that after completing EFT, 90% of couples report significant improvement and 75% experience complete relationship recovery.

According to Mr. Sibley, “Over the past 20 years, there has been a wealth of research looking at couples who stay together and are happy, yet how many couples are aware of how they can use this information to help them to be happier together? How many of the fights we have end without anything being resolved, except a further chipping away at the relationship? It is possible to have more effective discussions, or even fights, and the process Angela and I have learned has led to great results with many clients.

Ms. DeCandia-Presuto states, “Connected Couples Seminars help couples heal and prevent damage to a relationship. Couples learn to listen and respond to each other in a new way that speaks to their relational and emotional needs. As emotional intimacy emerges, couples experience a sense of safety, often absent in relationships affected by conflict and distance. This shift in communication allows couples to heal longstanding hurts and regain closeness. For me there is nothing more gratifying that being able to share this process of change with the couples I meet.”

Ms. Decandia Presuto and Mr. Sibley have collaborated frequently since first working together at the Montclair-based Family Service League and will be co-leading the series of Connected Couples Seminars.
