DADDY FREDDY is one of the topacts in Reggae&Dancehall worldwide known as the worlds fastest rapper and founder of Raggamuffin-HipHop. He’s in business since the late 80s and has worked together with Cypress Hill, Fatboy Slim, Prodigy, George Clinton, Heavy D, Frankie Paul, Salt’n’Pepa as well as with many other international artists.

Daddy Freddy grew up in Trenchtown Kingston Jamaica, home of many musical legends. His house was literally a few minutes walk from Sir Clement ‘Coxsone’ Dodd’s notoriously influential Reggae factory/soundsystem/record label, the world renowned ‘Studio 1’. Freddy’s tremendous natural ability meant he was quickly enlisted to work with Lt. Stichie and then later with Sugar Minot. It was performing on Minot’s soundsystem that founded Freddy’s fame in Jamaica.

His first recording “Zoo Party” on a demented cut of the Sleng Teng riddim, was released on the Studio One imprint in 1985. When he released his first album, ‘Body Lasher’ 1986, six of the tracks went straight into the Jamaican top ten. After successful touring in the US under the ‘Chrysallis’ record label, Freddy came to England in 1987. Once he arrived in the UK he took the sound system circuit by storm, he set new trends & standards that were imitated by almost every MC in some form at that time. He stayed in England after Youthman Promotion went back to Jamaica to form and maintain the UK branch of the sound.

He left Promotion in 1988 and joined forces with Tenor Fly on the mighty Sir Coxsone Outernational where he eventually met David Rodigan. Rodigan in turn introduced Freddy to Simon Harris from Music of Life and together they formed a formidable partnership that peaked with the release in 1990 of his debut album “Stress”. The hit singles from the album were “Raggamuffin-HipHop” and “We are the Champions” a collaboration with Asher D. these two tracks really set off the whole ragga/hiphop craze that was prevalent in the UK at that time. It made him famous around the world and has achieved cult status. This song created a new style of music that was a fusion of Jamaican ragga and UK/US HipHop.

Then he went on an extensive UK/Europe tour with Tim Westwood (Radio 1) along with hot U.S. HipHop artists of that time Keith Murray, Queen Latifa and Heavy D. This album created even more interest for Freddy. Artists such as Dr. Dre, Cypress Hill, David Morales and Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim) all requested collaborations and others like The Prodigy, Salt ‘n’ Peppa and KRS One (Boogie
Down Productions) all sampled his unique voice. He also featured extensively on US televison, appearing on Soul Train, Arsenio Hall’s show and Yo MTV Raps, CNN, BBC’s famous children’s show Blue Peter and many more. In 1989 he was elected Dancehall DJ of the Year of the Reggae Awards in England. This fame culminated in Freddy attempting and breaking the World Record for World’s fastest rapper in 1989 as part of the Capital radio Music Festival. Eventually Freddy broke the record four times taking it from 346 to 598 syllables a minute. First and second time in UK (in Covent Garden and on BBC’s Record Breakers show where he appeared with the great Roy Castle) and two times in America (New York Empire State Building and in Washington).

Renowned live performances have always been Freddy’s hallmark, most notably at the New Music Seminar in New York and Tim Westwoods live rap shows on Capital radio. Many releases and collaboration followed: 1990 “Ragga-House” with Simon Harris, 1991 the “Stress” album and “Daddy Freddy’s in town” with legendary Led Zeppelin (Top 50 status U.S. Billboard),, “Peacefull Journey” with Heavy D. & The Boyz (Platin Status), 1992 with Me'lissa Morgan Top 10 hit “Through the Tears”, “Raggamuffin Soldier”, “Hall and Pull”, “Dancehall Clash” with Tenor Fly, 1993 “Respect Due with Heavy D. & Frankie Paul, 1994 “Pain Killa”, 1996 “Non Stop Strugglin” ls Movin Souls, ... and many many more

Therewith, Freddy has already affected a radical style at the end of the 80s which considerably affected the music scene of the 90s significantly and has reached one high point after the other since the turn of the century. He lives in England now and travels around the world to perform on the biggest dancehall stages. In 2006, he had shows on “Chiemsee Reggae Summer” (Coke DJ-Culture) with about 25000 visitors as well as “Reggae Jam” Festival with more than 12000 visitors in Bersenbrück Germany. His repertoire consists of Roots Reggae, Dancehall and Ragga Sounds as well as HipHop, R&B and Drum’n’Bass or Old-Skool specials.

Daddy Freddy stands out due his mutability as a vocalist and his unique entertainment skills, he is known as one of the best live-acts worldwide.
