HAFAS for Google Android

HAFAS for Google Android

Hanover/Karlsruhe. Android is Google's new operating system for mobile devices, which also offers new possibilities concerning the timetable information system HAFAS by HaCon. Although the number of devices currently on the market is still manageable, soaring numbers are expected: Finally, the features are not less comfortable than those of the iPhone. In addition, Android will provide a good opportunity for software. Through the open operating system other applications can easily be connected. In particular, maps like Google Maps are easy to integrate. Moreover, good hardware characteristics allow connecting a compass, for example.

For the mobile timetable information the software specialist HaCon from Hanover has fully ported HAFAS Mobile and adapted to the look and feel of Android. All HAFAS Mobile or Hafas2go features, such as timetables, connections or maps, including Google Maps, are included and have now been expanded: an interactive map with powerful GPS input connection and an improved tracking radar function. A magnetic compass helps to find the right direction.

Take off interactively with just one click

Faster results with an optimum of orientation – that is the goal of the new Match-Me-function HAFAS for Google Android. Therefore, the system offers an optional built-in mini-map. During the search query the appropriate map is opened in parallel. Bus stops, metro stations and taxi stands and points of interest are displayed with just one click. By locating the person or by manually entering the site, HAFAS shows the exact distance and even the direction of the nearby stations.

This proper orientation option also works in reverse. And that is exactly the trick. Thus, the user can specify exactly where he is located. The map of that area shows up immediately. It provides information on all bus stops in the area with information on departure times of individual lines. So, the passenger knows at a glance where the next bus or train departs. In addition, the system displays the exact run of the lines.

HAFAS for Google Android can be experienced live at the IT-TRANS from February 24th to 26th. There, HaCon presents its latest developments around the timetable information system HAFAS. In the Conference Centre in Karlsruhe, HaCon is represented at a joint stand (Level A, Booth E6) with PTV Planung Transport Verkehr AG from Karlsruhe. (www.it-trans.org)
