Smooth Code Review Process Directly in Visual Studio with Updated Review Assistant

Devart has released a greatly improved Review Assistant 4.0, a code review tool for creating review requests and responding to them without leaving Visual Studio. The tool received numerous review workflow enhancements including new statuses and comments, a single diff-tool window to view changes, improved code review board and many others.

The main changes relate to code review workflow with a new polished interface, fresh review statuses and comments, a single editor to view all changes, revamped email notifications, and many others.

Here’s the scoop on the key enhancements implemented in the updated Review Assistant:
1) New review statuses to foster code collaboration
The new version of Review Assistant now includes a Response Required status. This status informs a code author that there’s a question they should answer to keep code review process flowing. Moreover, the Rejected status is now called Rework Needed which is a more precise description of the code state.
2) Automated review status to eliminate excessive efforts
With the new update, a reviewer now gets a review status automatically by simply clicking Complete Review with no need to define it manually. The automated status is based on the type of specified comments.
3) Extended categories of review comments to cooperate seamlessly
In addition to a simple comment, a user can now add a comment with different labels:
-‘Question’ to notify that a code author’s response is required
-‘Should Fix’ to indicate code flaws that are not critical
-‘Must Fix ‘ to show code errors
4) A single editor to gather all code changes under one roof
Now a single diff-tool window displays all changes made to different files without opening separate documents.
5) Decluttered email notifications
In this version, e-mail notifications acquired improved appearance and readability. What’s more, all the review notifications are streamlined into message chains.

-Refined interface and features of Code Review Board
-More convenient export of reviews to XLS files
-Improved verification of incompatibility between client and server versions
-Support for MS SQL 2017
