ELDERS AWAKENED, STANDING FOR OUR GRANDCHILDREN AND ALL LIFE: Climate Action, Social Justice and a Flourishing Future

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, July 2, 2018 - On Saturday, September 15, 2018, from 9 am to 4 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church, Martin Luther King Room, 1187 Franklin Street, San Francisco, CA, the Conscious Elders Network will gather 80-100 elders to examine the responsibilities of elderhood and its commitment to action in today's world. Sliding scale cost $30-75.

In a time when elders have lost their connection with Nature and their original earth-centered traditions and lineages, the gathered elders will use their years of life experience, their perspective, wisdom, and resources to contribute to the healing of their world. Examining elderhood and their pivotal role in restoring the life-sustaining legacy for future generations and all life, they will explore their passions and skills to effect change and to build relationships for a thriving future.

In the morning the attendees will explore together how to reclaim their Elders’ moral voice –
the voice that speaks for the welfare of all, protecting their grandchildren, restoring Mother Earth, and regenerating a flourishing world. There will be opportunities for truth-telling about the state of the world and acknowledging the felt pain and gratitude. With a particular focus on the unjust effects on planetary life support systems, and on communities most at risk from climate chaos, those gathered will share their dreams of transforming their society towards health, justice, peace, and cooperation.

Following lunch, in the afternoon session, the participants will face the reality of the changing climate and the positive solutions available to combat this threat to all life. Speaking will be Elders who have developed successful community organizing methods. They will divide into small groups by interest and region to address climate action, social justice, intergenerational collaboration, or other themes to create action plans to take the necessary next steps.
