Computer Geek (and his Mum) Take on Gates and Google
Web developer Clive McGonigal originally created the United Kingdom one page web site: www.UK1page.com for his mother. But what was a collection of links to his Mum's favorite shops and web sites has evolved into a web portal for the whole of Great Britain. Visitors can go, with one click, to over a hundred of the country's top secure shopping sites, search the web (or Ebay or Amazon) and even order a pizza all from the simple one page site. The page is free of banner ads and in their place it has a News Feed from the BBC and a section where visitors can personalize the page with their own favorite links. Visitors can also click straight through to their web e-mail accounts such as AOL and Hotmail, their online banks or the national newspapers."It's a simple idea that's long overdue" says Clive, "Thousands of British surfers have already set it as their default Home Page - the page that automatically comes up each time they go online - I confidently expect it to become a global franchise type thing soon."
One click links to the Stock Market, local weather and local government and more ensure that the site's users get to where they want to be quicker . "It's not just about shopping it's getting people a click closer to where they want to go and new useful, country relevant, links are being added all the time, it is constantly evolving but remains on just the one page."
So what's with this 'Global Franchise'? Knowing when he's on to a good thing Clive has bought hundreds of 1page Domain Names and is set to offer www.NewYork1page.com. www.Texas1page.com and the rest to US developers in the New Year. "Any marketeer who can't see the benefits needs to find another career" says Clive, "Offering visitors a free useful site that does just it what it says it does is refreshing - plus I like the fact that an individual owner in any State or Country will be able to get the sort of day to day exposure that the Big Boys would die for!"
"It's not just a question of selling a bunch of good Domain Names - I don't know where people that live in Ohio want to go on the web every day therefore I want to sell www.Ohio1page.com to someone that does."
So what does Clive's mother, Mary, have to say about www.UK1page.com? " I think it's great when someone who is clued-up on computers creates something that helps those of us that are not. I'm very proud of him."
Maybe Google, Yahoo and the rest need to follow this man, and his mum's, lead - keep it simple, relevant and free and 'they will come'.
"Yes it will be world domination - but in a good way" says Clive, "Watch this space!"
