New Guest Ranch for Autistic Children and their Families

BILLINGS, Mont., December 14, 2009 — The Bunce family will never go to Disney World—at least not all together. The sights, sounds, textures and spectacle would overwhelm the senses of their 8-year-old daughter, Cassidy Bunce. Cassidy has autism, which makes the everyday vacation options not an option at all.

What the Bunce family needs is a peaceful place. A vacation spot where Cassidy can have the support of a trained staff as she takes in the world around her. Where mom and dad will get a chance to relax and melt into their surroundings, and her siblings still play and challenge their senses and inquisitive natures. A place where the entire family can foster an understanding of the natural world. The Bunce family needs Hope Reins Ranch.

The Bunces are not alone. In the United States alone, autism impacts more than 1 million families. One out of 150 children will face a diagnosis of autism, a developmental disability that typically impedes verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions, and leisure or play activities.

Hope Reins Ranch is the vision of Jenny Chesley, a therapeutic riding instructor who’s dedicated her life to teaching and helping children and adults with special needs.

At Hope Reins Ranch, families of children with autism and other special needs will experience the beauty and peace of nature along with the adventure of the Wild West. From horseback lessons and trail rides with North American Riding for the Handicapped Association-certified instructors to hiking, fishing and swimming, Hope Reins Ranch will offer a little of everything outdoors for everyone in the family.

“This is one of the most exciting projects that I’ve ever seen and will do so much for so many,” says Eugene Kilgore, recognized guest ranch leader. “I’ve always felt nature and animals were the best healers of all. I admire Jenny and her vision in every way.”

Hope Reins is excited to have Kitty Stalsburg as an advisor to their board of directors. Kitty was president of the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association from 2001 to 2004. “Jenny’s vision will permit families with children of all abilities to enjoy quality time in a supportive, natural environment,” she says. “Something that is often so very hard for them to find.”
