Electroencephalography (EEG) is an electrophysiological monitoring method that involves electroencephalogram (EEG) which is used to evaluate the brain’s spontaneous electrical activity over the period of time. It is used in the conditions such as epilepsy (Seizures), head injury, encephalitis, brain tumor, encephalopathy, memory problems and others. It is also helpful in understanding the level of brain activity when the patient is in coma. It is used to monitor activity during brain surgery. Electromyography (EMG) is a diagnostic procedure that involves testing the electrical activity of muscles and the nerve cells. It also helps doctors in diagnosing the disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome, nerve root injury and some less common conditions such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and others. EMG test has two components EMG surface and Needle EMG. Surface EMG is the first part of the procedure which involves placing small surface electrodes on the skin to assess the ability of the motor neurons to send electrical signals. Whereas Needle EMG is the second part of the EMG procedure, which also uses electrodes to evaluate electrical signals these are directly inserted into muscle tissue to evaluate muscle activity during movement. Evoked potential (EP) test is for the measurement of the electrical activity of the nervous system. The response is in regards to the stimulation of specific sensory nerve pathways. This testing is harmless, painless, and is a very sensitive technique for detecting damaged areas. There are three types of evoked potentials widely used namely visual evoked potentials, somatosensory evoked potentials and brainstem auditory evoked potentials.
