Press release from: Green Collar Association

Liberal Party of Canada Leader Michael Ignatieff Pledges

Washington, DC, November 9, 2009 - The November issue of the Green Collar Association newsletter begins with an opinion piece written directly for Green Collar Association members by Michael Ignatieff, renowned scholar (Harvard, Cambridge, Oxford, Toronto) and politician (Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and Leader of the Official Opposition in Canada). Drawing on his insights and experience Ignatieff argues that Canada needs to assert greater effort toward developing a renewable energy economy. He argues that, if done right, Canada can become a “clean energy powerhouse.” And he sets out a Liberal plan for accomplishing this.
Ron Sokolov, Green Collar Association Senior Vice President for Strategic Partnerships, writes an impassioned piece about how the science and economics of global warming bring about the moral imperative to create policy to address it.
Dr. Michael Dayan, Green Collar Association Co-founder, advocates for a strong interim agreement at the Copenhagen Climate Conference this December. He explains the context and importance of the upcoming climate negotiations, COP15, and the potential economic impact of successful negotiations for the creation of green collar jobs; calling this a “bonanza.”
Dr. Hershel Frimer explores the connection between climate change and global problems such as overpopulation, deforestation, widespread pollution, extinctions, desertification, and abject poverty. He reminds us of the importance of green collar work in addressing and curbing change.
Also included in this month’s newsletter are news releases by members Yale University, New York Institute of Technology, Boston Architectural College, UC Berkeley, Tufts University, McGill University, University of Tennessee, Purdue University, Eco Institution, Shoreline College, Lethbridge College, Johnson Controls, Southern California Edison, and the National Council for Science and the Environment.
