Sculpting Success in Yorkshire

Secretly nestled away in the little village of Gilling in North Yorkshire is an unknown wood sculptor by the name of David Wood.

David has been quietly producing beautiful wooden artifacts for 3 years in his spare time from his workshop in Gilling, occasionally showing his work in an odd gallery and selling his designs through his website.

Passionate about all types of wood, David can talk for hours about the intricate details of each piece of work of art, from the length it takes to dry the wood to the patience needed to achieve something both visually beautiful and desirable to the buyer, he is modest and unaware of his greatness in the world of wood.

David Wood, artist and craftsman at David Wood – Wood Art says; “I’m a landscape gardener by trade and have always had an admiration for wood and what can be achieved by using it. There’s something about the different grains, the density of each piece of wood, and the simplicity of one of my designs that starts out as a tree and ends up being a bowl, a clock or a piece of furniture that makes spending days and hours on a piece of art worthwhile.”

Based in North Yorkshire with his family, David hopes to share his designs across the Yorkshire region via art galleries, in gift shops, and at art events and festivals.

David goes on to say; “I use every kind of wood that is available to me from oak to cedar, redwood to the rare pink ivory and everything in between, to produce pieces that I feel are worthy of being shown on a mantelpiece or on display in someone’s home. If I wouldn’t have it in my home then I won’t share it on my Instagram or on my Facebook page. All my designs have full provenance history, which outlines the wood type, the history of the wood, the location from where the wood was taken, and many other relevant pieces of information. I personally want to know all about the wood that I’m working with and it’s history, and I think my customers also want to know.”

David is very much looking forward to seeing his pieces of wood art in galleries and shops around the region in the coming months.
