Advanced Osteotomy Tools AG appoints Cyrill Bätscher as Chief Executive Officer

Cyrill Bätscher (48) is the new CEO of Advanced Osteotomy Tools AG (AOT), Basel. As of today, he takes over from Founder/CEO Dr. Alfredo E. Bruno (65), who has reached retirement age but continues at AOT in a scientific leadership role and will stand for election to the Board of Directors. Thus, the management team leading AOT continues to consist of the same four members: Cyrill Bätscher (CEO), Alfredo E. Bruno (CSO), Andreas Meschberger (CQM) and Daniel Kronberger (CFO).
AOT is the first company worldwide to develop a surgical robotic system (CARLO®), to cut bone by “cold” photoablation with laser, leaving bone structures intact and vital.
Dr. Erich Platzer, chairman of the Board, is very pleased about the organic management transition: «Cyrill Bätscher is a very seasoned MedTech industry manager. Before taking over as CEO, Cyrill Bätscher had joined AOT as COO in October 2015, taking responsibility for administration, marketing & sales, and project management. He holds an MBA from the State University of New York, Albany (USA), a BBA from the Graduate School for Business Administration in Zurich (Switzerland), and a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences of Northwestern Switzerland in Muttenz. Mr. Bätscher has extensive management experience in MedTech (Stratec Medical, Synthes, Johnson & Johnson) as well as metalworking and consumer goods industries (Ringele AG, DoetschGrether AG).

About AOT
AOT is the first company worldwide that cuts bone with lasers. The company has developed a technology to reinvent bone surgery by means of robot-assisted «cold» photoablation. CARLO® stands for «Cold Ablation Robot-guided Laser Osteotome». «Cold» ablation describes the approach to ablate bone layer after layer with the help of a laser. In contrast, in conventional surgical procedures bones are cut in one go, creating microstructural damage, heat and debris. The advantage of the newly developed method is that the bone does not overheat and the microstructure remains intact and viable, enabling better vascularization and quicker healing.
To accomplish this, the laser is mounted on a tactile robotic-arm that was designed specifically for medical use. The device allows the surgeon to perform osteotomies with unprecedented precision, and in freely-defined, curved and functional sectional patient-specific configurations, which are not achievable with conventional instruments.
