About the Book:
This is an entertaining collection of short stories about animals you might see on a Summer’s day walk in the country.
There are illustrations by Jan Martin to help children recognise what they see and encourage them to appreciate the countryside.
The author, Ann Poole, previously published an imaginative series of stories about creatures that you might find on a beach entitled “Beach Friends”

“The children from the local school were out for a nature walk. As they were walking along, one of the children stumbled over something. When they looked they saw it was a hedgehog. Mr Hedgehog was frightened by the sudden interest in him. He curled up in a tight ball to protect himself. The children picked him up very carefully so they wouldn’t prick themselves on his sharp spines and put him on the grass verge. They really hoped they hadn’t hurt him. As they watched quietly, Mr Hedgehog began to uncurl and slowly went on his way. It had been a lovely nature walk for the children. They hadn’t expected to get this close to any creatures, let alone stumble over poor Mr Hedgehog!”

These are wonderful stories about animals that you commonly find in the countryside like hedgehogs, mice, rabbits, snakes and foxes.
The illustrations are vivid and colourful and my two children absolutely loved them.
