HAFAS for the iPhone successfully launched into the British market
Hanover. The journey planner for the iPhone developed by the German software specialist HaCon has just been launched successfully into the British market through their sales and support partner in the UK, Kadfire Ltd. With the mobile timetable information of the transport operator CrossCountry Trains even more passengers reach their destinations more comfortably than before. After HaCon’s iPhone applications have already been introduced to the national timetable information of Austria and Denmark, CrossCountry is the third HaCon-customer that offers its mobile timetable information also for the iPhone. All three mobile travel planners are based on HAFAS, the timetable information system by HaCon.The mobile journey planner Train Search provides travellers with all the relevant timetables for long- and short-distance connections. From individual timetable information, departure boards and area maps as well as information about the nearest stations, travellers get all the most up-to-date travel information directly on their iPhones. It does not only present timetable information about the entire timetable in England, Wales and Scotland: No matter whether a customer is on board of a train or if he is picking up somebody at the station – he always knows if his train is on schedule, if there are any disruptions or delays. Passengers can access information about these and plan alternative routes whilst on the move, simply on their iPhones.
As a mobile version for the iPhone, HaCon has already realised the journey planner SCOTTY mobil for ÖBB (Austrian Railways) and the Danish national timetable information Rejseplanen. They are all based on HAFAS: Europe’s leading timetable information system developed by HaCon can be found in 18 countries worldwide.
Train Search for the iPhone means comprehensive journey planning functionality for both long and short distance travel. Nearby stations can be identified, based on the current location of the traveller. Arrival times in real time and platform numbers are shown in a compact way. The traveller knows how much time is left to his departure or if a connection can still be reached
Route details include interim stops and train information. Area maps are embedded within the application. A favourite function for destinations and routes including auto-history for past queries are part of the application as well.
Covering over 1,400 route miles and calling at over 100 stations – stretching from Aberdeen to Penzance, Bournemouth to Manchester and Stansted to Cardiff, CrossCountry crosses more of the UK than any other train company. About 30 million passengers travel approximately 16 million miles per year with CrossCountry trains. 1,700 employees work for the company.
The Train Search solution for the iPhone has been jointly realised by HaCon and CaperWhite.
