Wreck of the Titanic Foretold in Nineteenth Century Book, Reissued On Kindle

In a new release of a book that was originally written in 1898, the wreck of the Titanic is prefigured with surprising similarities. The original edition was entitled “Futility” and written by American author Morgan Robertson. The new Kindle version, annotated by Stephen Roberts, is called “Titanic Foretold” and comprises the original version but with comprehensive notes comparing the fictional vessel of the story with the Titanic disaster.

Commenting on the release, Roberts said “The world's largest luxury liner, deemed unsinkable, strikes an iceberg in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, and sinks with huge loss of life. We think we know the story, but in fact, this is the plot of a novella published 14 years before the Titanic disaster, by an obscure American writer, Morgan Robertson. The similarities between the ship featured in Futility (presciently named "Titan") and the Titanic are many and detailed. This work by Morgan Robertson continues to fascinate, over a century after it was written. He was incredibly insightful, describing the ocean liner in details that correspond closely to the Titanic, built years later. His ship was called “The Titan”, and it sank in mid Atlantic, foundering on an iceberg. The coincidences only start there – there are many more to explore, which is what I attempted to do with this annotated version.”

Stephen Roberts is a British author based in the East of England. Originally from Lancashire, he was educated at Oxford University and subsequently went on to a career in the telecoms industry. He has written a number of non-fiction works, covering marketing and historical events.
