Press release from: TeleMental Health Institute Inc.

25th January 2018, San Diego, CA - They all look appealing -- but not all online employers are the same. Mushrooming at an unprecedented rate, a new company seems to be joining the scene every week. Many offer licensed professionals the “opportunity” to connect with online clients/patients, but some are lacking in protections for the undiscerning professional who may be enamored with the prospect of working from home, working at odd hours, and in some cases, working with less hassle than developing and maintaining an in-person practice. On February 7, 2018 from 2 PM Eastern/11 AM Pacific, the Telebehavioral Health Institute will offer a webinar titled, “5 Big Mistakes to Avoid When Looking for a Telehealth Job.”

As lead author on several textbooks about telemental and telebehavioral health and relevant competencies, TBHI’s Executive Director, Dr. Marlene Maheu will present this webinar to outline the five biggest mistakes made by licensed clinicians who offer services through online employers. She’ll help attendees identify key information to look for in a potential online employer's website; how to read their contracts for clauses that may become problematic, and how to evaluate if they technology will allow clinicians to meet requirements set by their licensing board and profession’s ethical code. This information-packed 1-hour program will be focused on helping clinicians develop their own criteria for evaluating potential employers, developing a question list and ultimately decide on which employer to trust and which to avoid.

Dr. Maheu explains, “Working online can indeed be easier and more convenient than in-person care. In fact, it can be the best way for clinicians to leverage their clinical time and effort, but they first need to make sure their employer allows them to easily meet their regulatory and ethical requirements. She added, “Some online employers offer tremendous benefits to clinicians, while others simply bank on their market value as a licensed professionals -- then leave them holding the liability bag.”

Internationally recognized telehealth industry leader, Marlene Maheu, Ph.D., is scheduled to present this 1-hour update on telemental health / telebehavioral health practice webinar titled, “5 Big Mistakes to Avoid When Looking for a Telehealth Job.” The webinar will be broadcast Wednesday, February 7, 2018 from 2 PM Eastern/11 AM Pacific.
