Calculate and Reduce Server Energy Consumption with Free Online Sizing Tool

07-02-2007 01:57 PM CET | IT, New Media & Software

Press release from: SizingLounge Ltd.

Freiburg/Birmingham, July 2nd, 2007 -- In a bid to promote global energy-efficient Server systems, the German-based company SizingLounge Ltd. has extended its online sizing service with a Total Cost of Ownership calculator. The new TCO tool calculates energy consumption per server as well as costs for storage, support, software and labour.

Once you have chosen a software, the number of users and then clicked the size button, the results for Dell, HP, IBM and Sun servers appear - ordered by total costs. With these results, sizinglounge.com then allows you to compare the cost-efficiency of different system architectures and operating systems. You can compare the total costs of a central system with a grid environment or the total costs depending on the operating system: UNIX, Linux or Microsoft Windows.

The software portfolio contains the full range of databases, application servers and applications, such as Apache Web Server, BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, Oracle Database, Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle PeopleSoft, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft SQL Server and mySAP.

Hardware and software vendors are advised to take advantage of SizingLounge "Premium Domains" to help promote more efficient sizing calculations for their individual products. Premium Domains provide advanced and exclusive sizing results for individual needs, complete with only chosen software or hardware, and programmed to match the sizing requirements of individual customers, partners or employees.

SizingLounge Ltd. launched its web portal (www.sizinglounge.com) one year ago to enable organizations to independently size, compare and select their IT infrastructure and servers according to their specific business requirements. Since its inception more than 5,000 users from over 140 countries have experienced the benefits of SizingLounge - the key benefits being its independence and ease of use. Among these customers are small-to-medium businesses, global enterprises and system integrators. The total retail value of server sizings done using sizinglounge.com during this time exceeded $ 3.8 billion.
