Fritz Koenig - Mona II, Bronze. 1971. Hight with socket: c. 250 cm (98.4 in)

Munich, 3 March, 2011, (kk) - While New York is still discussing the location for Fritz Koenig’s sculpture “The Sphere”, which once stood in front of the World Trade Center as a symbol for world peace, the caryatid sculpture “Mona II“ by the same artist and from the same year can now be bought in an auction in Munich.

On occasion of the first spring auction at Ketterer Kunst, this bronze, as well as around 30 other sculptures will be auctioned in the Special Auction Garden Sculptures on 7 May.

Fritz Koenig’s bronze from 1971 impresses with its sole presence, 2.5 m tall and weighing 250 kg it is definitely no lightweight. However, it still has a filigree appearance and almost seems to hover, the blossom-like bowl stretches upwards on the narrowing stem like an oversized flower. The estimate of the exclusive eye-catcher can be found at www.kettererkunst.com.

Other highlights in the garden sculpture auction will be Gianpietro Carlesso’s ”Decostruzione XXIV“ and Erich Hauser’s ”22/70“, as well as works by Michael Croissant, Josef Staub and Michael Schönholtz.
