Dazzling Finish to 28th Edition of Intramural Sports at Banasthali

A highly cherished quote by all women across the globe is by none other than all time great woman boxer Mary Kom from India who said “People used to say that boxing is for men and not women and I thought I will show them some day. I promised myself and I proved myself.”

The main objective of intramural sports meet is to create an atmosphere that encourages individuals to develop life-long involvement in recreational activities in order to enhance the quality of life for the Banasthali community by educating and encouraging participation in activities that promote healthy lifestyles, social interactions, and leadership skills. Intramural Sports offers the students an opportunity to participate in their favorite sport on a competitive or recreational level.

With 16000 students, at Banasthali which is world’s largest fully residential women’s university, intramural sports is not a week-long or fortnight activity but is a yearlong activity. For the year 2018 -2019, Banasthali Intramural Sports Meet had a scintillating start on 29 July 2018 with Prof Chitra Purohit President Banasthali as Chief Guest. The closing ceremony was scheduled on 06 March 2019 with Prof Aditya Shastri Vice Chancellor Banasthali as Chief Guest who undoubtedly gave a dazzling finish to the same. After the ceremonial welcome of the Chief Guest, Shri Ghanshyam Matariya from Department of Physical Education welcomed the entire gathering.

The famous five houses of Banasthali namely Ajanta, Nalanda, Sanchi, Takshashila and Vikramshila true to their names came up with better than the best mass displays. If Vikramshila gave the ultimate motherly care in their display with Ma as the theme, Takshashila stole the hearts with their power packed performance highlighting transgenders and acid attack victims. Sanchi house with Naari as theme displayed the female potential in all spheres which included who is who among Banasthali alumnus. Nalanda house with Swaraj as theme taught the entire gathering the Indian freedom movement with their meticulous display loaded with patriotic fervor. Ajanta house brought back the forgotten Circus back to limelight and the inevitable mera naam joker Raju smooth sailed into everyone’s heart.

A team of Banasthali girls wearing nine-yard saris accompanied by captivating rhythm of dholak performed the famous Lavani dance of Maharashtra making the audience asking for more. The Yoga display was nothing short of being spectacular. Rope Malkhamb had the entire audience spell bound.

The panel of judges included Shri Abhishek Pareek CEO Atal Incubation Centre, Prof Preeti Sharma Dean of Social Studies, Prof. Manju Singh Coordinator Women's Studies & Research Centre who indeed had a tough time to choose the very best among the best. The winners under various categories received the prizes from Chief Guest Prof Aditya Shastri.

Aditi Sharma had a thunderous round of applause for the endurance race which reiterates that Banasthalities are tougher than the toughest. The Lavani dance team, Yoga display team, Rope Malkhamb team, band team received prizes for their captivating performances. Students who won in various inter university competitions held at state level, zonal level and All India level for various games like Badminton, Basketball. Volleyball, Football, Cricket, Judo, Karate, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and Lawn Tennis received certificates and prizes from the chief guest.

For the mass display Sanchi House bagged third position, Nalanda House the second position and the honours for the first position was bagged by the indomitable Vikramshila house. For year long sporting honours Ajanta, Vikaramshila and Sanchi bagged respectively the third, second and fisrt postion in the school category. Takshashila, Vikramshila and Sanchi took the First, Second and Third Positions respectively in the college category.

The students and faculty who attended the valedictory function of the intramural competitions left with beaming faces and pride that they were indeed part of a top ranking institution which is a jewel in the crown among the women's universities not only in India today but across the globe. The 28th version has just ended and the show will go on as already for launching the 29th version has started.
