Press release from: Ex Libris

A celebration in Sofia heralds the launch of a suite of Ex Libris solutions at three prestigious Bulgarian institutions

Hamburg, Germany – September 27, 2010. Ex Libris® Group is pleased to announce that the National Academic Library and Information System (NALIS) in Bulgaria has gone live with the Primo® discovery and delivery solution, the SFX® OpenURL link resolver, the MetaLib® gateway and metasearch solution, and the DigiTool® digital asset management system.

“The solutions that have been installed in our member institutions appear to have been designed uniquely to realize our strategy,” commented Dincho Krastev, library director of the Central Library of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and executive director of NALIS. “The NALIS team was impressed by the smooth and successful cooperation with Ex Libris experts, who consistently met our requirements during the implementation period. Ex Libris as a company, and each staff member who has worked on our implementation, has been responsive, motivated and proactive in support of our unique needs.”

The NALIS foundation is comprised of the three most prestigious academic institutions in the country: the Bulgarian Academy of Science, the Sofia University, and the American University in Bulgaria, with the support of the America for Bulgaria Foundation. Two founding members of NALIS—the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Sofia University—have run the Aleph® integrated library system (ILS) for over 10 years.

Mr Krastev added: “Primo offers our users a single interface for finding and obtaining all the information they need from our extensive collections. Thanks to its seamless integration with Aleph, Primo provides many library services via the discovery interface, avoiding a hand-off to the Web-based ILS for tasks such as renewals, holds, fines, recalls, and user profile updates.”

Marc Daubach, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris Europe, remarked: “I am honored to be invited to the celebration marking the launch of Ex Libris solutions at the NALIS consortium. Having worked closely with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Sofia University for more than a decade, it is very exciting to see our partnership strengthen in this way. We are looking forward to ensuring that our solutions continue to meet the unique needs of NALIS users in years to come.”
