Next to Bauhaus
Dessauer Schule – Dessau School of ArchitectureThe yearbook Next to Bauhaus by the Dessau School of Architecture is the first in a planned series of annual documentations on the research and teachings by the Faculty of Architecture, Facility Management and Spatial Information of the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. The title provides the first comprehensive overview of the work and legacy of lecturers and students of the Dessau campus and discusses which proposals and recommendations will set exemplary standards for today's teaching practice. Published on the eve of the Bauhaus centenary in 2019 this title, along with the future ones to come, will convey a concept of a "new Bauhaus" with academic claim and a clear commitment to its great role model.
The Dessauer Schule – Dessau School of Architecture is part of the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. Its campus is not only spatially in immediate proximity to the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation. It is also oriented towards and committed to the ideals of Bauhaus teachings: it pursues the continuation of the Bauhaus ethics and aesthetics towards building as such and has the aspiration to carry these over into a contemporary position. "Our themes are no longer those that used to feature on the agenda when Bauhaus moved to Dessau. (..) Other questions line up to overwhelm us. How sustainable are our buildings? How does this fit in with an environment we are altering so severely that there is already talk about an Anthropocene? And how do we gain more for architecture under these conditions than simply meeting the demands of environmental sustainability?" are among some of the questions asked by Jasper Cepl in his introductory essay. He also formulates the tasks that face contemporary architectural teaching in general and more specifically the responsibility of the lecturers for the personal and creative development of the approx. 1,000 aspiring architects from all parts of the world who are studying at the Dessau School of Architecture. How this can be achieved is shown in the essays by the lecturers from the Faculty of Architecture, Facility Management and Spatial Information, and the documentation of the international projects by the students from the bachelor and master programmes.
With contributions by Axel Teichert, Jasper Cepl, Natascha Meuser, Heinz Runne, Rudolf Lückmann, Stephan Pinkau and Claus Dießenbacher.

Flying Panels. How Concrete Panels Changed the World
During the second half of the twentieth century countless concrete panels sailed through the skies: not only physically from factory to construction site, or from country to country, but also figuratively. The flying concrete panel could be found all over the world in countless pictures, on posters, in cartoons and movies and even as toys or theatre and opera sets. Their symbolism made them an emblem for the promise of…
