Hence, breast cancer is categorized as HER2+ or HER2- depending on its involvement in the growth of breast cancer. HER2 receptors on breast cells control healthy growth and self-repair of breast cells, but in breast cancer, these genes mostly do not work correctly and signal cancer cells to make more HER2 receptors for HER2 proteins.
