Organizations with people diversity has positive influences on creativity and innovation.” Over a period of 18 months, it is indeed a matter of pride that KONGSBERG`s objective of attaining 20 per cent female managers was achieved.

Ms Vimalpriya Kesavan is presently Department Manager Energy Division at KONGSBERG DIGITAL Mumbai. She holds a BTech Chemical Engineering, MTech Petroleum Refining & Petrochemicals from Anna University Chennai and International Executive MBA Leadership & Entrepreneurship from United Business Institutes Brussels Belgium. On 16th Feb 2018, Ms Vimalpriya visited Banasthali and addressed the Chemical Engineering students in the SBI Lecture Theatre Complex. The customary welcome with Khadi Garland and bouquet was done by Chemical Engineering Faculty Ms Meenakshi and Ms Priyanka. The ceremonial e Lamp Lighting was done by MS Vimal Priya along with Prof GopalaKrishnan Training & Placement Head, Ms Dolly Ashwin Fourth year Coordinator, Ms Nisha Kushwaha Third Year Coordinator and Ms Swayam Rampal Ice Club President. Following a multimedia presentation of Banasthali and Zerone festival commissioned by Ms Vanshika third year student, department Head Prof BR Natarajan introduced Ms Vimalpriya in an inimitable style to the audience. Ms Divya Agarwal fourth year student also shared details about Banasthali.

Addressing the students, Ms Vimalpriya said it was a matter of pride for her to be invited to Banasthali which is the World’s largest fully residential Women’s University. She said that she chose Chemical Engineering to prove that she is a leader who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way in the process industry which is heavily male dominated. She presented a video on Kongsberg and the challenging opportunities it provides for aspiring chemical engineers. She gave a talk on Process Modelling and Simulation and gave salient features of the state of the art latest software K Spice which is a powerful dynamic process control tool loaded with a wealth of sophisticated new and improved features for system management, thermodynamics, solvers and a flexible and intuitive graphical user interface.

In a nut shell, K-Spice enables detailed dynamic simulation of oil and gas processes and control systems throughout the whole process lifecycle. K-Spice is a Windows based tool with a flexible and intuitive graphical user interface and a wealth of advanced features. She explained as to how K Spice is designed for use across the core applications of: Project feasibility / concept selection, Pre-engineering / detailed engineering, Commissioning / production start-up, Operator Training and Online operations / maintenance support / process optimization and how within each application K Spice offers a multitude of functionality based on high-fidelity simulation models that can be re-used at every stage of the project.

The session included an open house question answer session on process simulation and internship avenues at Kongsberg. When Ms Vimalpriya said that she will be happy to have her daughter educated at Banasthali, there was a thunderous round of applause. Faculty Ms Vibha Verma presented a glittering memento on behalf of Banasthali to Ms Vimalpriya. Ms Vimalpriya visited various land marks which included Shantabai Shiksha Kutir which is the birth place of Banasthali, Khadi weaving centre, art gallery Kala Mandir, flying club, horse riding club, library where original copy of the constitution is kept, Design Centre, Automation Centre etc and met senior officers of the University including Prof Ina Shastri Pro Vice Chancellor Banasthali.

The students and faculty who attended the talk by Ms Vimalpriya left with beaming faces and pride that they were indeed part of an institution which is a jewel in the crown among the women’s universities not only in India today but across the globe.
