Abstract
Global cow peas (dry) production amounted to 4,732 thousand tonnes in 2015, declining by -15.9% against the previous year level. Overall, the global cow peas (dry) output pursued a pronounced decline from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total output figures decreased at an average annual rate of -1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012, when the output figure increased by +74% from the previous year level. In that year, the global cow peas (dry) production attained its maximum volume of 8,292 thousand tonnes. From 2013 to 2015, the total cow peas (dry) output growth failed to regain its strength.

Over the analyzed period, global cow peas (dry) production was buoyed by popularity of healthy eating and population growth. These key factors are to remain relevant with regard to cow peas (dry) output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a robust expansion of the harvested area and a noticeable contraction of the yield figures.
