Cybersecurity leader, Richard Struse of MITRE, joins OASIS Board of Directors
Creator of STIX and TAXII threat intelligence sharing standards takes on leadership role in global standards organization.15 February 2018 – The OASIS international standards body welcomes one of the pioneers of automated cybersecurity information sharing, Richard Struse, to its Board of Directors. Chief Strategist of Cyber Threat Intelligence at the MITRE Corporation, Struse chairs the OASIS Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) Technical Committee. His new position on the Board reflects the consortium's emergence as a nexus for advancing global cybersecurity standards.
Richard Struse is widely regarded for his role in creating the STIXTM and TAXIITM threat intelligence standards during his tenure as Chief Advanced Technology Officer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center (NCCIC). In 2015, he led the successful transition of STIX and TAXII to OASIS, a move that resulted in widespread adoption across the public and private sectors. Under his chairmanship, CTI has grown to become the largest Technical Committee in OASIS history with nearly three hundred members.
"Since the transition to OASIS, my faith in the consortium has grown even stronger—as has the STIX/TAXII community itself," said Struse. "As part of the Board, I look forward to working closely with my fellow Directors, staff, and members to ensure that OASIS remains a great place to develop and evolve technical standards."
Struse has received numerous accolades including the U.S. DHS Secretary's Award for Excellence. He was named by Federal Computer Week as one of the 'Federal 100' and by OASIS as a lifelong 'Distinguished Contributor'.
"We are honored to have Richard join the OASIS Board," said Laurent Liscia, OASIS CEO. "He's already proven to be a compelling ambassador for the consortium, paving the way for other cybersecurity initiatives including OpenC2 and CSAF to transition to the OASIS community. His support will be instrumental as we move into our future."
Struse joins OASIS Board Directors: Martin Chapman of Oracle; Gershon Janssen, an independent security consultant; Dawn Jutla of Saint Mary’s University; Frederick Hirsch of Fujitsu; Jenny Huang of AT&T; Dave Ings of IBM; Beth Pumo of Kaiser Permanente; Paul Lipton of CA Technologies; Monica Palmirani of the University of Bologna; and Bruce Rich of Cryptsoft.
OASIS is a nonprofit, international consortium that drives the development, convergence and adoption of open standards for the global information society.
