Abstract
Global vanilla market revenue amounted to 535 million USD in 2015, increasing by +24.5% against the previous year level. Overall, global vanilla market continues to undergo a considerable growth: the market value increased at an average annual rate of +13.5% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, was roller-coasting throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013, when the market revenue increased by +84% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global vanilla market revenue peaked in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Over the analyzed period, global vanilla production was buoyed by disposable income growth, growth of food production, and diversification of diet. These key factors are to remain relevant with regard to vanilla output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a robust expansion of the harvested area and a noticeable contraction of the yield figures.

The country with the largest volume of the vanilla output in absolute volumes was Madagascar (4 thousand tonnes), accounting for 53% of global production. Moreover, vanilla output in Madagascar exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest producer, Indonesia (1 thousand tonnes), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Papua New Guinea with a share of 8%. From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of Madagascar's vanilla producton stood at +5.1%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Indonesia (-9.2% per year) and Papua New Guinea (+0.5% per year).

The world vanilla harvested area amounted to 110 thousand ha in 2015, which was almost equal to the previous year figure. The harvested area indicated a noticeable increase over the period under review, representing a compound annual growth rate of +3.3% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some mild fluctuations over the recent years. Over the period under review, the total vanilla harvested area peaked in 2015, and is likely to continue its expansion in the immediate term, following rising demand for vanilla globally.

The global average vanilla yield amounted to 680 hg/ha in 2015, falling by -4.7% from the previous year figure. The yield figures recorded an downward trend over the period under review, with a compound annual growth rate standing at -5.9% from 2007 to 2015. However, the yield levels displayed some little fluctuations over the recent years. The highest vanilla yields were recorded in 2007, when it peaked at 1108 hg/ha. Afterwards, it decreased slightly and then fluctuated around these levels throughout the analyzed period.
