Abstract
Global eggplant (aubergine) market revenue amounted to 48,554 million USD in 2015, going down by -9.1% against the previous year level. Overall, global eggplant (aubergine) market continues to indicate a noticeable growth: the market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013, when the market revenue increased by +19% from the previous year level. In that year, the global eggplant (aubergine) market revenue attained its maximum of 60,635 million USD. From 2014 to the end of the period under review, the total eggplant (aubergine) market revenue failed to regain its former peak level.

Over the analyzed period, an increase in global eggplant (aubergine) production was primarily driven by population growth. The world eggplant (aubergine) harvested area amounted to 1,910 thousand ha in 2015, which was 1.9% more than the previous year figure. The harvested area indicated a noticeable increase over the period under review, representing a compound annual growth rate of +1.8% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some mild fluctuations over the recent years. Over the period under review, the total eggplant (aubergine) harvested area peaked in 2015, and is likely to continue its expansion in the immediate term, following rising demand for eggplant (aubergine) globally.

The global average eggplant (aubergine) yield amounted to 271 thousand hg/ha in 2015, rising by 1.2% from the previous year figure. The yield figures recorded an upward trend over the period under review, with a compound annual growth rate standing at +2.3% from 2007 to 2015. These yield figures maintained, all in all, a stable trend pattern throughout the analyzed period. The highest eggplant (aubergine) yields were recorded in 2015. Albeit an intensification of modern agricultural technics use, the future yield figures subject to a substantional risk of adverse weather conditions.
