Abstract
Global oat production amounted to 24,062 thousand tonnes in 2015, rising by +5.9% against the previous year level. Overall, the global oat output pursued a moderate decline from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total output figures decreased at an average annual rate of -0.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when the output figure increased by +15% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global oat production reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Over the analyzed period, global oat production was buoyed by population growth and growth of food production. These key factors are to remain relevant with regard to oat output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a noticeable curtailment of the harvested area and solid gains of the yield figures.

The world oat harvested area amounted to 9,699 thousand ha in 2015, which was 1.1% more than the previous year figure. The harvested area indicated a pronounced contraction over the period under review, declining by an average annual rate of -2.6% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some mild fluctuations over the recent years. Over the period under review, the total oat harvested area peaked in 2007, declining in the following year. From 2008 to 2015, the total oat harvested area fluctuated at lower levels.

The global average oat yield amounted to 25 thousand hg/ha in 2015, rising by 4.7% from the previous year figure. The yield figures recorded an upward trend over the period under review, with a compound annual growth rate standing at +1.8% from 2007 to 2015. These yield figures maintained, all in all, a stable trend pattern throughout the analyzed period. The highest oat yields were recorded in 2015. Albeit an intensification of modern agricultural technics use, the future yield figures subject to a substantional risk of adverse weather conditions.
