Erykah Badu Teams Up with Contemporary Painter Dawn Okoro for Charity

CONTEMPORARY painter DAWN OKORO invites the community to join her in her fourth solo art exhibition, “Creation II.” The show takes place at MINC LOUNGE in Dallas, Texas on June 15, 2006. A portion of the proceeds and all donations from the show will benefit B.L.I.N.D. (Beautiful Love Incorporated Nonprofit Development ). B.L.I.N.D. is headed by neo soul singer ERYKAH BADU who is confirmed to make a guest appearance at the show. B.L.I.N.D.’s mission is to improve communities and the world though art, love, education, caring, and sharing. The headquarters is found at the historic Black Forest Theater in south Dallas where Badu grew up. The theater hosts first class shows and productions featuring local and world-renowned talent. Educational programs, culturally dynamic events, and forums are also held there.

At a recent show “At Risk,” Okoro destroyed one of her own paintings. Though her paintings are now safe, she felt the need to destroy a piece as a demonstration to garner more support for the local art community. Not only did “At Risk” serve as a platform to bring attention to the visual arts community, but it brought awareness and served as a fundraiser for Badu’s nonprofit, B.L.I.N.D.

The “Creation II” exhibit consists of acrylic paintings inspired by fashion and the Pop Art movement. Okoro is attempting to bring back the support for visual arts and artists
everywhere. Show opens June 15, 2006, 6-10pm at Minc Lounge, 813 Exposition Ave; Dallas, Texas. The show will include performances by concert violinist Richmond Punch and Geno Young who has written and produced music for Badu and other artists. The “Creation II” exhibit is a one night only show, so the community is encouraged to come out on June 15th to support this cause.
