Dissolved oxygen (DO) is a liquid process measurement that determines the amount of oxygen carried or dissolved in the process liquid. The sensors produce signals which is proportional to the amount of oxygen present, which are then later transmitted to data loggers. Dissolved oxygen is a demanding parameter in most aqua-cultural applications. The sensor is used in water treatment plants such as effluent activated sludge process, sewage treatment works, as well as in potable water treatment. It is effective in intake protection, river monitoring, fish farming, and other fields where water quality is important.

It is also used in bioprocessing applications such as fermentation or cell culture. Dissolved oxygen sensors do not measure the actual oxygen content but measures the partial pressure of the oxygen in the water. The dissolved oxygen sensor can be used to measure the concentration of dissolved oxygen in water samples being tested in the laboratory or field. Since dissolved oxygen is one of the primary indicators of the quality of an aquatic environment, this sensor can perform a variety of tests or planned experiments to determine the changes in dissolved oxygen levels.
