FIREFLY EMBARKS ON EPIC TRIFECTA

London: UK production outfit FIREFLY FILMS announced today that it has signed on to produce three major projects - all period, and all epic.

FIREFLY FILMS and its helmer Matthew Hobbs will join veteran filmmaker Mohy Quandour and his Moscow based Sindika Productions to produce IVAN & MARIA. Set in 16th Century Russia, IVAN & MARIA tells the epic tale of Tsar Ivan IV ('the terrible') and his marriage to second wife Maria, an aristocratic Princess. Ivan & Maria's eight years of marriage was a heart-rending love affair in the midst of Kremlin intrigues, bloodshed, plots and counter-plots which ended in tragedy for Maria - she is murdered - and Ivan tragically murders his own son and heir. Based on the poem by Russian poet Luba Balagova, IVAN & MARIA is written by Quandour and Richard Lasser. Firefly's Alexander Faleev, a Russian expat, will also produce. The film's producers are setting their sights high for directorial talent, and hope to announce the attachment of the film's helmer over the coming months.

FIREFLY FILMS is also set to bring another 16th Century tale to life - this time in France - with LA COLUMBINA, after snapping up the option on Australian writer Judith Lanigan's forthcoming novel "The Great Clown Kidnapping of 1572". LA COLUMBINA is a romantic comedy about a company of clowns who are kidnapped on their way to perform for the King of France, and are held ransom for the release of a thousand religious prisoners. Firefly is currently looking to sign a high-profile writer to pen LA COLUMBINA.

FIREFLY FILMS will also partner Malta based Drunken Angel Entertainment and its producer Dennis Mahoney to produce THE VILLAGE (working title). To be helmed by twice Golden Lion nominated Italian director Guido Chiesa, THE VILLAGE is the story of a small island community whose lives are undisturbed by WWII until the unexpected arrival on the island of a platoon
of British soldiers. The producers are currently securing production finance, and hope for a late '06 start.
