69th Republic Day Celebrated at Banasthali World’s Largest Fully Residential Women’s University

The clear sky, sunshine and pleasant weather at Banasthali was a bonus which added to the enthusiasm of the students who ensured that the 69th Republic Day celebrations was observed with patriotic fervor, gaiety and enthusiasm.

The India today we live is infinitely more prosperous, more creative, more resilient than at any time since becoming a Republic on 26th January 1950 assured by the Constitution free to celebrate its diversity and differences, its many languages, faiths and cultures; free to be different and respected for it. While for Hindus Bhagavad Gita is the holy book, for Muslims the Quran and for Christians the Bible, invariably for all citizens of India irrespective of religion the holiest book is indeed the Constitution of India.

On 26th Jan 2018, for the 69th Republic Day at Banasthali, Prof Aditya Shastri Vice Chancellor unfurled the tricolor which was followed by singing of the National Anthem. After the customary parade inspection, took the salute for the marching groups of Banasthali Seva Dal, Scout, NSS students, Banasthali Band, Flying Club, Horse Riding Club. The march past also included students carrying flags to represent different states of India as well as different countries.

Prof Aditya Shastri in his inspiring speech read out the preamble of our constitution and explained the same to the gathering. When he mentioned that the founder of Banasthali ‘Apaji’ Pandit Hiralal Shastri was a constituent assembly member who was a signatory to the constitution and that a original copy of our constitution is kept preserved in Banasthali Library, there was a thunderous round of applause. He also quoted Swami Vivekananda who had thundered Freedom, O Freedom! Freedom, O Freedom! as the song of the soul. Pointing out at the rules and regulations of Banasthali, Prof Aditya Shastri said that they have been framed keeping the students in mind as much as the constitution kept in mind all its citizens and urged the students to carry the spirit of Banasthali good citizenship and tradition of wearing of Khadi for the rest of their lives. The celebrations ended with the singing of Vande Mataram.

When the celebrations ended, the students and faculty who had come for the function left with beaming faces and pride that they were indeed part of an institution which is a jewel in the crown among the women’s universities not only in India today but across the globe
