The ABA's Palm Beach Imperials

The ABA's Palm Beach Imperials

BOCA RATON, FL – May 8, 2006 – On Wednesday, May 3, 2006, the ABA’s Palm Beach Imperials opened its summer Exhibition Season against the 2006 ACBR Men’s Basketball League All-Stars at the Athletic Club Boca Raton.

The first two quarters of the game featured a closely competitive match in the Palm Beach Imperials’ first public Exhibition Game. However, after some half-time adjustments by Imperials’ Head Coach and GM, Lamont Carr, the Imperials found their rhythm and coasted to a 127-101 victory. The Imperials held their first of three tryouts back in March and have since practiced as a team only once.

Preceding the All-Star-Game was a Skills Competition, which was open to the public. FAU student and diminutive fan-favorite 5’5” Ernie Pazos (20), from Boca Raton and a member of the Imperials hit 9 out of 10 free throws to win the free throw contest. Joey Gunter (22), a senior at Southeastern University in Tampa, and a NCAA D-II 2004-05 National Champion, and member of the Imperials made 4 of 5 three-pointers from the pro line to win the 3-Point contest.

Dee Jay K-N-S from www.trackfinders.com played “Sweet Georgia Brown” before and after national record artist, Margo Joy www.margojoy.com , a Boca Raton native, sang the National Anthem.

Lamar Moore, a senior and former NCAA D-I forward for Florida Atlantic University and now a member of the Imperials, received the M.O.P Award as the game’s Most Outstanding Player. Lamar averaged 26 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 7 steals. Imperials teammate Calvin Jenkins scored 27 points. The All-Stars Andy Robertson and Gianni Cugini scored 28 and 21 points respectively.

This fan-friendly event was covered by i1TV, of the Imperiali Organization, and WPEC-12, which televised highlights of the game on Wednesday night. The game was co-sponsored by Crown Trophy of Boca Raton and The Melting Pot of Boca Raton. Also partnering with the Palm Beach Imperials were interns, Emily Lipman and RG Hackett, from Professor Ted Curtis’ Sports Management Department at Lynn University, as well as the Pompile & Associates’ athletic trainers. “With SUNFEST’S All Access Kick Off on Wednesday night, we were happy to see so many basketball fans come out and support this Community Partnership event, said Head Coach and GM, Lamont Carr, “and we’re very grateful that they did.”

The Palm Beach Imperials are currently owned and operated by the Imperiali Organization (www.imperiali.org). For updates, please go to the Imperials’ Web site at www.palmbeachimperials.com or go to www.abalive.com
