Montreal, Quebec - We have had the opportunity to sit down with Rob Creamer, Director of Business Intelligence, to discuss our platform, and ask him how business intelligence can be used in corporate expansion and investment attraction efforts.

Q: What would be the best way to describe fdi365 in one sentence?

fdi365 provides users with customized list development and company profiling in the form of a data-as-a-service platform.

Q: Can you provide a bit more background on fdi365 and how this new venture came about?

We started developing our platform two years ago. The idea to start doing this ourselves didn’t happen overnight, it was born from trying to better understand our clients’ needs and a want to create a product that would be simple, yet full of information. Our clients understand that a successful campaign begins with targeting the “right” companies, meaning companies that complement their jurisdiction’s industry portfolio and create local jobs. And this is how it all started… we began digging through our historical data and success stories to identify which parameters companies were showcasing when we first learned about their expansion projects.

Q: How do you know which companies are expanding and how are they assigned to fdi365 users?

We run a predictive technologies system which identifies companies in some type of a growth mode. From that point on, our business intelligence team will further analyze information for each company and determine if there is a fit with any of our clients’ targeting criteria. If there is one, we will collect further information and create a user-specific company profile detailing the potential opportunity and selection rationale.

Q: Who is your target audience for fdi365?

We are staying loyal to our current client portfolio, meaning economic development organizations and investment promotion agencies. Lead generation is our core business, and fdi365 is a supplementary service that enhances our product offering. The benefit of fdi365 is that it can be used directly by our end-users for their own marketing and outreach purposes or be combined with our lead generation service.

Q: What are the next steps, and will you try to grow this service?

As any other service, we are continuously looking to enhance the quality and client experience. We launched about 5 months ago, and our client roster now includes some of the leading economic development organizations in North America. From the original business intelligence tool we launched the platform now includes a daily news aggregation service, industry profiles and lead tracking. We will continue to add features to the platform and further invest in its development, listening to our users and building the platform side-by-side with them.
