Solar Velocity Co-founder and COO Kirby Winters recognized as Smyrna Business Person of the Year

The Smyrna Business Association named Solar Velocity Co-founder and COO Kirby Winters the Smyrna Business Person of the Year last Thursday. Winters, who manages Solar Velocity’s business operations and shapes its technology development, was honored at a luncheon at the Smyrna Community Center.

The Smyrna Business Person of the Year award recognizes an individual who is both experiencing success in his business and distinguishing himself through his ongoing work in the community. In the ten years since its inception, Solar Velocity has enjoyed steady growth, partnering with new clients such as AkzoNobel, Green Guard, and Cobb Galleria and earning additional business from older clients. Under Winters’ direction, the company has been recognized as one of Cobb’s Top 25 Small Businesses by the Cobb Chamber of Commerce seven years in a row. In addition to guiding Solar Velocity to its place as a leader in web development and interactive marketing, Winters is also a Rotary Club member, Emory-Adventist Hospital board member, and former president of the Smyrna Business Association.

"I just try to lead by example, to do what I think is right and help grow the business," Winters explained after receiving the award. A Cobb native and graduate of Emory Business School, Winters encourages the Solar Velocity team to welcome each new challenge and to always consider the larger picture. "Our thoughts are to give back to the community and to do our part to help the city, county, and state to grow."

The Smyrna Business Association solicits nominations for the Business Person of the Year Award in April. A committee comprised of past recipients then meets privately in May to select a winner, and the decision is kept secret until the presentation of the award.
