Press release from: Alaskan Artist - Sharon Hiner

December 2005, Lewiston, Idaho

Sharon Hiner’s, “Fall Gold”, represents a classic example of the Hudson River School approach to landscape painting and won the “Best of Show” award for 2005 at Lewiston, Idaho’s Snake River Showcase.

The “Showcase” as it is know locally has been around almost twenty years. The show has a board of directors that handles the juried process for prospective art to be entered. A judge from out of the area was contacted which made it a unbiased show. The judge had outstanding credentials and gave each award winner a great critique. There was a cash award along with a beautiful “classy” bronze medallion. The show was advertised locally and had a good number of visitors. Folks wait for this special show for purchasing fine art prior to the holidays.

Sharon Hiner has been painting the scenic beauty of Alaska and Montana for over thirty years. Her view of both the "Great Land" and the "Big Sky Country" is the central theme of most of her art work. Her subjects are recognizable places, from the Rocky Mountains, streams and ranches of Montana to Alaska's wind-blown Arctic coastal plains and her dark Southeastern rain forests.

Sharon was born in Eureka, California, a third generation Eurekan. She graduated high school there and attended California State University, Humboldt in Arcata, California where she studied art. It was in this environment of magnificent redwoods and wild Pacific coastline that her interest in realistic landscape painting began.

Sharon moved to Alaska in 1963 and spent the next sixteen years studying, enjoying and painting that awe-inspiring scenery. Her material comes from her personal observations of the Chugach, Wrangell, Fair Weather, Alaska mountain ranges and the Bering Sea, Arctic and Pacific oceans. Her work has been acclaimed at art shows throughout Alaska, winning numerous awards including several "Best of Show" awards.

Sharon uses the Internet (www.artistalaska.com) to display her art work and works daily in her art studio in Pierce, Idaho. Sharon has both prints and originals of her paintings for sale online.
