Abstract
Global tobacco (unmanufactured) market revenue amounted to 36,539 million USD in 2015, picking up by +2.4% against the previous year level. Overall, global tobacco (unmanufactured) market continues to indicate a prominent growth: the market value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009, when the market revenue increased by +22% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global tobacco (unmanufactured) market revenue peaked in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Over the analyzed period, an increase in global tobacco (unmanufactured) production was primarily driven by growth of cigarette consumption. Furthermore, these key drivers are expected to continue promoting the tobacco (unmanufactured) output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a measured expansion of the harvested area and a moderate improvement of the yield figures.

The country with the largest volume of the tobacco (unmanufactured) output in absolute volumes was China (2,849 thousand tonnes), accounting for 40% of global production. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Brazil (-0.2% per year) and India (+3.3% per year).

The world tobacco (unmanufactured) harvested area amounted to 3,927 thousand ha in 2015, which was -0.9% less than the previous year figure. The harvested area indicated a slight increase over the period under review, representing a compound annual growth rate of +0.9% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern was relatively stable throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the total tobacco (unmanufactured) harvested area peaked in 2011, falling back in the following year. From 2012 to 2015, the total tobacco (unmanufactured) harvested area fluctuated at lower levels.

The global average tobacco (unmanufactured) yield amounted to 18 thousand hg/ha in 2015, fluctuating near the previous year level. The yield figures recorded an upward trend over the period under review, with a compound annual growth rate standing at +0.7% from 2007 to 2015. These yield figures maintained, all in all, a stable trend pattern throughout the analyzed period. The highest tobacco (unmanufactured) yields were recorded in 2012, when it peaked at 18 thousand hg/ha. Afterwards, it decreased slightly and then fluctuated around these levels throughout the analyzed period.
