Small Business Development Center Adds New Advisor who specializes in business and corporate law

The Small Business Development Center of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, which provides free one-on-one consulting to help strengthen the bottom lines of area companies, has added attorney Joyce Wallach as a new consultant to its roster of over 30 small business advisors. Wallach brings a broad base of business and corporate law experience to her new role as SBDC advisor, and will be available to assist clients in both Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. The SBDC is a program of the Economic Development Collaborative-Ventura County.

“We are delighted to have Joyce join our team, and her legal expertise will help strengthen our capacity to service both start-ups looking for help with the formation and operation of business entities, as well as established businesses needing guidance on contract negotiations, capital-raising transactions and transactions to buy or sell a business,” said Ray Bowman, director of the SBDC of Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. “Many businesses also turn to our SBDC for help navigating the ever-changing regulatory requirements, and we are glad to have Joyce’s experience to help our clients stay in compliance.”

Wallach graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in history and went on to earn her law degree at U.C. Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law. An experienced corporate/securities/business attorney, she began her career as an associate at Sidley Austin, one of the largest law firms in the world. She later went in-house as general counsel to a Nasdaq-traded corporation. Wallach has also served as in-house counsel to the California State Legislature. Her experience includes an assembly fellowship and legislative aide position to then-Assemblyman Gray Davis.

As a newcomer to Ventura County, Wallach recognizes the importance of reaching out to support business and economic development in our region, is honored to be joining the roster of esteemed EDC-VC advisors and enthusiastic to serve SBDC clients.

The SBDC is funded by the SBA and provides professional business assistance at no cost to businesses. Participating businesses are required to follow a well-defined scope of work and report their economic successes. These SBA milestones are defined as job creation, increase in sales, capital investment, jobs retained and businesses started.
