Effect of Brexit on Equity Investing in UK
There has been much speculation about the effect of Brexit on equity investing in the United Kingdom. There are a great deal of Brexit related factors that could hamper the ability of private equity firms to conduct deals. Many of the debt funds are owned by foreigners and they may exit the United Kingdom due to the effect of Brexit. Reduced availability of debt makes it difficult to arrange for finances to fund acquisitions. After six months of Brexit, the number of buyouts has decreased. In addition, due to the implication of Brexit, United Kingdom can no longer access the European Investment Fund. This fund had a prolific role in UK’s equity market but this has come to an end. Also, firms in the United Kingdom may face difficulties in accessing the EU institutional and retail investment markets. However, there is a positive effect of the Brexit on the UK equity market. Due to Brexit, UK can now develop its own unique policies on private equity investing within the country. This will facilitate the role of the UK government to stimulate investment in growth finance and the buyout sector.
