MEDIA BROADCAST connects its NGN platform with international telecommunications network node in Frankfurt

Bonn, 25 March 2009 – MEDIA BROADCAST has now connected its BROADCAST NGN (Next Generation Network) with the international telecommunications network node from ancotel, operator of the biggest data and telecommunications node in Europe. The NGN, which was conceived by MEDIA BROADCAST as an all-in-one network, is available throughout Germany and provides uncompromising service to radio, media and business customers in terms of the highest levels of availability and real-time capabilities, itself offering very high bandwidths. NGN integrates data and voice traffic from IT and telecommunications platforms, links data centres and connects archives or enterprise applications. The BROADCAST NGN makes transfer capacities available to customers at short notice and with scalable bandwidths at any time. Through the BROADCAST NGN in conjunction with the telecommunications network node, users have the capability and flexibility to route global connections into major urban centres in Germany. In addition, these functions can be utilised on the entire international end-to-end connection.

Usingen Teleport integrated in the network
MEDIA BROADCAST also networks its satellite broadcast station in Usingen with the NGN. This means that customers have access to Europe’s largest teleport to connect their signals with satellite platforms. For example, satellites can be used to connect to branch offices or regions with poorly developed infrastructures. Other applications include emergency capacities or IP-based backup solutions for international businesses. One example is the emergency solution offered by a French broadcaster involves the provider sending its signals via an IP connection to the international node in Frankfurt. MEDIA BROADCAST receives the signals in its NGN and converts the signals to the transmission format in Usingen. From there, the programmes are transmitted to the satellite. The service provider also provides a German broadcast presentation company with alternative broadcast feeds to satellites via the network node and the NGN.

About broadcast NGN
MEDIA BROADCAST started the Next Generation Network with BROADCAST NGN in mid 2008, thus meeting the growing demand for IP-based data transfer platforms in the media industry. The country-wide network currently comprises 19 switching nodes networked via 10 Gbps fibre optic lines in such a way as to ensure maximum protection against connection outages. The major characteristics of the network are high data transfer rates, including for real-time communications and data transfers for media customers, very short switching times and a wide variety of formats and interfaces. The NGN integrates not only classic audio and video signals, AES/EBU, DVB-ASI, SD, SDI and HD-SDI from the media field, but also the 10/100/1000 Ethernet data connections that are becoming a telecommunications standard for many companies. MEDIA BROADCAST provides these services in real time with the usual quality of service, as well as offering them in the particularly cost-effective “best effort” mode.
