In 1993, when the South German entrepreneur Wolfgang Jassner launched the underwear label bruno banani, in order to bring new, trendy underwear for men onto the market, it was like a real revolution. For the first time in the history of the clothing industry, bruno banani suddenly pepped up the most intimate of all articles of clothing with bold colours and daring cuts and added unusual details such as embroidered emblems or rhinestones.
High-use textiles such as these also make particular demands on fabric suppliers. In addition, there are always new demands in accordance with the zeitgeist. In order to produce the popular items of underwear and also comply with the increasing demand for eco-textiles, bruno banani decided to use BIOPHYL™ for its Jump&Run collection.
The knitwear for this is produced by Händel + Diller, based in Balingen. The Händel + Diller knitting company, known for its innovative circular knitting and for specialising in the finest knitted fabric for underwear, was able to develop some particularly effective properties for this area.
BIOPHYL™ fabrics are produced from polyester yarns, which are based on a special polymer made by DuPont De Nemours. These yarns not only guarantee an unusually brilliant colour, adhesion and softness, but also give fabrics outstanding stretch and recovery properties.
BIOPHYL™ also has another decisive advantage, as Advansa Market Manager Luciano Colasanto knows, "The Bio-PDO™ used in BIOPHYL™ reduces considerably the dependence on petroleum. 37% of the polymer used in BIOPHYL™ are made of the new, reproducible raw material. This is an important step towards achieving sustainability for polyester textiles."
BIOPHYL™ also has good prospects for the environment, since compared to nylon, which is frequently used in underwear, production of the new polymer results in up to a 63% reduction in CO² emissions. This contributes to reducing the greenhouse effect and a concurrent energy saving of up to 30% saves additional resources.
Further plus points are: heatsetability, UV/chlorine resistance, ironing resistance and awarding of the Oeko-Tex-Standard 100 certificate in highest product class 1.
Due to BIOPHYL™, the eco-friendly all-rounder, in the future bruno banani will not just visually be shaking up the world of underwear, but with the help of the new fabrics will also be ensuring a healthy climate beyond that of men's underwear. This is a product that should find many fans amongst bruno banani's environmentally and quality-conscious customers.
