Abstract:
In 2015, the value of asphalt shingle production in the U.S. amounted to $8.6B, waning by -5.6% against the previous year level. Overall, the U.S. asphalt shingle output pursued a slight decline from 2007 to 2015. The total output figures decreased at an average annual rate of -0.1%. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when the output figure increased by +6% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the total value of asphalt shingle shipments in the United States attained its maximum level of $10.1B in 2013. Afterwards, the growth in terms of the asphalt shingle production failed to regain its strength through to 2015.

Prepared asphalt and tar roofing and siding products, including saturated felts and boards for nonbuilding use was the major product category in the U.S. asphalt shingle manufacturing, with a share in total output standing near 70% in 2015. Roofing asphalts and pitches, coatings, and cements lagged far behing, accounting for only the 27% share. The other related products together comprised approx. 3% of the total output.
