Press release from: BMW Tennis Championship

Sunrise, FL -- The BMW Tennis Championship has received the 2009 official entry list from the ATP and once again a talented field of men's players from the tour will be showcasing their talents from March 15-22 at the Sunrise Tennis Club. The tournament entries, which has a cutoff ranking of 72, includes many recognizable veterans as well as many new players on the rise who have gotten off to a strong 2009 season.

The strength of the main draw is expected to be even more impressive when the four wild cards are announced in two weeks. Among the players receiving a wild card to last year's event was the 2008 Beijing Olympics Silver Medal winner and 2007 Australian Open finalist Fernando Gonzalez (Chile).

"We are very pleased to see how our event continues to draw top players each year," said Gabe Norona, the tournament's director and co-owner. "Our main draw entry list is stacked with talent and I envision the field to get even more competitive and attractive to our fans when we offer the four wild cards."

This year's main entry draw, which includes nine players in the Top 50, is highlighted by Rainer Schuettler (Germany). Currently ranked No. 31, Schuettler had his breakthrough performance at last year's Wimbledon where he defeated James Blake in the quarterfinals, only to lose to eventual champion Rafael Nadal in the semifinals. Feliciano Lopez (Spain) is the top ranked player on the draw at No. 27. The talented lefty's highlights include a three-set thriller with Andy Roddick in the finals of last year's Dubai tournament. Janko Tipsarevic (Serbia), ranked No. 47, made headlines last year at Wimbledon when he pulled the surprising upset over tournament favorite Andy Roddick. The top American on the draw is Bobby Reynolds (Acworth, GA), a former collegiate No. 1 ranked player while at Vanderbilt, who is also the last player in at No. 72 in the rankings.

The main draw list also includes three players off to a great start to 2009, Dudi Sela (Israel), Yen-Hsun Lu (Taipei) and Jose Acasuso (Argentina). Sela was a semifinalist at last week's ATP championship in Memphis. Lu is coming off an upset win over Lleyton Hewitt yesterday at the Delray Beach ITC. Acasuso advanced to the finals of the Viña del Mar Championship on February 2.

Most tennis fans will recognize many of the players on the alternates list including 2008 Delray ITC Champion Kei Nishikori (Japan), former Australian Open finalist Arnaud Clement (France), Athens Olympic Games Gold Medal winner in singles and doubles Nicolas Massu (Chile), along with Florida residents Robert Kendrick (Orlando) and Wayne Odesnik (Weston).

"Based on dual entries, a number of the alternates make it into the main draw," added Norona. "So if you became a fan of Nishikori after his amazing performance last year in Delray Beach, you will probably have a good chance to see him in our main draw."
