In 2015, the value of plastic bag production in the U.S. amounted to $9.4B, going down by -2.3% against the previous year level. Overall, the U.S. plastic bag output pursued a measured decline from 2007 to 2015. The total output figures decreased at an average annual rate of -0.2%. The trend pattern was relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when the output figure increased by +7% from the previous year level. In that year, the value of shipments of plastic bag in the United States attained its maximum level of $9.8B. From 2012 to 2015, the plastic bag production yet failed to recover to its maximum levels.

Single-web film specialty bags, pouches, and liners was the major product category in the U.S. plastic bag manufacturing, with a share in total output standing near 85% in 2015. Multiweb film/film combination specialty bags, pouches, and liners lagged far behing, accounting for only the 12% share. The other related products together comprised approx. 3% of the total output.
