In 2015, the value of heavy duty truck production in the U.S. amounted to $33.1B, picking up by +12.9% against the previous year level. Overall, the U.S. heavy duty truck output pursued a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The total output figures increased at an average annual rate of +8.7%. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when the output figure increased by +33% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the total value of heavy duty truck shipments reached its maximum level in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Trucks, truck tractors, and bus chassis (chassis of own manufacture) 33,001 lb or more was the major product category in the U.S. heavy duty truck manufacturing, with a share in total output standing near 71% in 2015. Buses, including military and firefighting vehicles (chassis of own manufacture) lagged far behing, accounting for only the 19% share. The other related products together comprised approx. 10% of the total output.
