Christian Flühr (cf-1.net) is not tired, even after 12 world records. The German extreme-ski-racer, who keeps on writing new chapters in ski history, achieved only a few days ago a new record in the Bavarian village of Oberaudorf and the Tyrolian village of Kössen with 53.577 meters altitude skied in just 24 hours. At the moment he is training in Obergurgl, one of the most snowsure resorts in Europe. Last year he completed his famous 264 hours (11 days!) non stop on skis, an unbelievable world record in endurance skiing in the resort. We caught up with Christian during a short break in training to find out what the future holds for the world record holder.

Editor: You want to end your career on skis at the end of this season. Will you do this for sure?
Flühr: Yes, very possibly. I will be 36 in May! It is therefore time to think about my future after professional skiing, but on the other hand, some soccer games go into extra time so maybe I will do the same on skis!

Editor: Is there any reason, why you are at the moment at Obergurgl for training?
Flühr: I like the slopes of Obergurgl and Hochgurgl. There are so few resorts, which have so much space on the slopes and where snow can be more or less guaranteed every winter. And it is nice to come back the place where I did the 264 hours- a completely unique event which I completed in January 2008.

Editor: What will be your next project?
Flühr: After the world record on altitude in 24 hours I needed a little break! In February I will compete in the German Military Championships as I train as captain of the reserves of the German Mountain Brigade. But there are already meetings with potential sponsors for new projects, which will hopefully take place very soon. When these are confirmed, details will be published on my homepage www.cf-1.net.

Editor: What was the greatest thing during your attempts in the past?
Flühr: The biggest challenge was for sure the 53.577 meters in 24 hours. It was an unbelievable effort, you can compare it to the race on the Streif at the World Cup race in Kitzbühel but for 24 hours instead of around 2 minutes. At SnowWorld Landgraaf I have never felt so cold, but if you ask me on the beauty of nature there was the hot spot of the 264 hours on skis in Obergurgl. I can exactly remember the 9th day on skis, when I was skiing with my team chief Sabrina Hoever late afternoon into the sunset. I had never seen a more beautiful sunset in the mountains than in Obergurgl.

Editor: Christian Flühr seems to be very relaxed. Is this right?
Flühr: Yes, indeed! I think I don’t have to lever myself into a corset, that I have to do something. For me skiing the greatest thing on earth. I really enjoy it, especially every single minute since the beginning of December 2008. But also besides my sports and the white world I am feeling more than well. Also in private life everything is good and from this I can get lots of strength and energy for the attempts which will come in the future. 12 world records on skis is quite good, but I’m hungry to do more!

Christian Flühr (cf-1.net) achieved his 12th world record on skis last week. At Hocheck in Oberaudorf and Unterberghorn in Kössen he managed to ski a total altitude of 53.577 m in 24 hours. This smashed the old record by about 7.000 m. Despite an injury to his left foot, Flühr showed that not only does he have the stamina to ski for a long time, he is also pretty fast!

Schmittenhöhe: a top athlet goes after an extreme record
He was born and raised in Oberhausen, right in the middle of the Ruhr. It is there, among the coal mines, that 34-year-old Christian Flühr has got his roots. But in contrast to the preferences of countless football fans in the region, there is only one thing that Flühr ever wanted to do: skiing. Nowadays, the Bavarian by choice still enjoys spending every single minute of his free time on
