Connections Academy is a leading online, tuition-free virtual public school

MTS Minnesota Connections Academy, ConnectionsAcademy.com, a free virtual school for K-12 students, has planned six field trips during the month of February to encourage students and staff to come together to learn and socialize.

The students, who attend public school online through MTS Minnesota Connections Academy, use the field trips to come together, support the principles and theories taught in the students’ lessons, and interact with other MTS Minnesota Connections Academy students and families.

In addition to celebrating Black History Month and listening to master storyteller Nothando Zulu, which took place on February 4, 2009, students and faculty from the Minnesota cyber school will have the opportunity to take part in the following field trips:

• Charter School Day at the Minnesota Capitol in St. Paul, Minnesota on February 10, 2009
The Minnesota Association of Charter Schools is hosting this special day at the Capitol to promote the 2009 legislative agenda and to share the benefits of a charter school education with area legislators. Students and their families will have the opportunity to take an active role in democracy and communicate their experiences at MTS Minnesota Connections Academy with legislatures from across the state.

• Snow Tubing at Wild Mountain in Taylor Falls, Minnesota on February 18, 2009
Wondering how snow tubing relates to the principles taught in students’ lessons? The first half of this field trip will teach students about the science behind snow tubing, and during the second portion of this field trip, students and their families will get to enjoy the fun winter activity.

• Visit the Mill City Museum in Minneapolis, Minnesota on February 24, 2009
Having dominated world flour production for roughly half a century, Mill City Museum chronicles the flour milling industry. During this interactive field trip, students will explore exhibits, partake in a scavenger hunt and watch an educational video.

• Great Harvest Bread and the Wild Rumpus Bookstore in Minneapolis, Minnesota on February 25, 2009
This field trip is all about bread and books. Students will tour and enjoy a sample of Great Harvest Bread before going to the Wild Rumpus bookstore for a tour and story time.

• Children’s Discovery Museum and the Judy Garland House in Grand Rapids, Minnesota on February 27, 2009
Students and their families will have the opportunity to enjoy the company of other Connections Academy families while engaging in various exhibits, including a kid sized town, river water table, a maze, geo-zoom, dinosaurs, and demonstrate their creativity in the art room.
