New free guide for weighing young people aims to help combat childhood obesity
The guide strives to make the weighing process clear, safe and easy to follow. It covers areas from preparing to weigh, carrying out the procedure and recording the weight reading afterwards.
A Government report in 2016, reported in the Daily Mail, found more than one in three 10-11 year-olds and one in five children aged 4-5 were overweight or obese.
Weighing can be used as a guide to monitor whether a child is a healthy weight, growing correctly and can be the first or only sign of certain diseases.
Marsden Managing Director, Richard Black, said: “Marsden is the leading provider of weighing scales to NHS hospitals, and this brings with it a duty to ensure all children are weighed safely and accurately.
“It is vital that all stakeholders involved in the process - from the parent to the doctor - understand the importance a weight reading can have on a child’s health and growth.”
